The Flamingo Fling, a yearly show and auction for ornament collectors of all kinds was held in Florida at the Doubletree Hotel in Tampa. The sterling ornament collectors participated in this event for the first time in the history, thanks to the hospitality and leadership of Don Chapman who lives in Nokomis, FL. There were several ornament vendors and collectors there and all were invited to the home of Don Chapman to view his collection; one of the largest collections of sterling on earth. There were both collectors and dealers who enjoyed Don’s hospitality. As you can see from the pictures, Don has a room in his house dedicated to displaying his collection. I wish I could have been there but I was busy getting my carpal tunnel operated on.

The Flamingo Fling is a charitable event which benefits one of the schools that trains dogs for people who have little or no sight. Don reports that he bought several sterling ornaments at the auction such as the Hand & Hammer Flamingo ornament and also a set of the “Angels of the Seasons.”
Don has volunteered to be the lead person for the sterling ornament collectors next year. I’m grateful that we have found someone who is willing to do the legwork so that the sterling ornament collectors can meet and again enjoy each other’s company.
