2004: I TOO SHALL LIVE
We live in a world where unimaginable cruelty and atrocities are
now commonplace. As we look to Christmas this year, we no longer
have a world full of 'sugarplums dancing in our heads.' Instead,
we live in an uncertain time where words like 'terrorism' have
bcome part of our children's vocabulary.
So why, then, should we even celebrate Christmas? Because Christmas
was the great advent of hope in the world. Christmas was not just
a baby in a manger. It was the fulfillment of God's promise to
save us, to shelter us, to redeem us from the world and its evil.
And He kept that promise. This year's ornament features the babe
in a manger resting in the shadow of a cross made of nails with
the words "HE IS RISEN." Many would say the symbol of
the cross and the joyous news that Christ is alive in the world
today befit an Easter ornament better than a Christmas ornament.
But, praise God, the joyous news that Jesus is alive makes all
life worth living and befits all seasons of the year. Though the
'Heart of Christmas' began in a manger, it does not end there.
The 'Heart of Christmas' is that Jesus was born in a stable, laid
in a manger, lived among us, died on a cross and rose from the
grave. Without the power of the cross, the simplicity of the manger
loses its meaning. With it, we can make it through these uncertain
times and live forever with the Giver of life. "HE IS RISEN."
I TOO SHALL LIVE.
